Joy Hutchinson is CEO of Yacht Furnishings by Eclipse, which she founded in 1978 to serve the mega-yacht market. The company has established a reputation for unparalleled craftsmanship, a reflection of Joy’s art background and innate sense of practical design honed during a lifetime of sailing.
She started her career as a solo entrepreneur with a sewing machine on board her family’s yacht. After a neighboring boating enthusiast asked her to sew a couple cushions, word about her talents spread. A business was born.
Today, Joy oversees a team of 25 people including 3D animators, CAD designers, tailors, and client-service personnel. While taking pride in her company’s exquisite, hand-sewn textiles, Joy has also ushered in a new era of technological sophistication.
We use a proprietary system to track every stage of a project – from consultation to shipment.
Eclipse also invested in 3D software to take digital surveys of all types of vessels. Such precise measurements enable the company to produce perfectly fitting decor including Awnings, Shades, bed linens, Leather-work, interior and exterior Furniture and Cushions, Weather Coverings, and more.
Born in New York, Joy studied at the Atlanta School of Art. Like many creative people, she draws inspiration from all that she sees. Her favorite painter is J. M. W. Turner, considered the artist of the sea for his many paintings of ships and fishermen.
